Want a Game?

Board and Table Games from Many Civilizations, by R.C. Bell – This book, which Beth gave me several years ago, is actually two volumes in one. The second was written about seven years later as an addendum to the first, with additional games that the author either hadn’t featured or didn’t know about. I found it quite interesting, but perhaps not the best book for recreational reading. A lot of it consisted of the rules to various games, and those aren’t exactly riveting reading when you’re not actually playing the game. Still, there was also a fair amount of history on the more popular games, as well as numerous illustrations, so it kept me entertained anyway. Categories described included race, war, dice, and domino games from different parts of the world. Card games are omitted, aside from a few that used boards AND cards. This book has been a valuable reference in some of my recent posts, and I’m sure it will continue to be so.
